My World Images - festival 26. august - 12. september

Danish Center for Culture and Development (DCCD) proudly presents the 8th IMAGES festival, My World IMAGES. Following seven international arts festivals focusing on regions and continents, the IMAGES festival now moves into a new phase placing the artists’ interpretations of the world at the very core of the festival. With this forthcoming IMAGES festival, My World IMAGES tries to catch-up with these changes. We shuffle the deck, even out the distances and let the artists speak for themselves. We leave behind our constructed myths about them – the others, the strangers – in favour of their own stories: 170 individuals, 170 worlds, 170 stories from 170 artists. We hand the stage to musicians, dancers, film and theatre directors, visual artists and writers. Among the many activities in the festival period are several exiting film, concerts, performances and exhibitions by artists from Africa. More info at www.images.dk og Facebook

Africa50 - Huset i Magstræde, 10.-25. sept.

Venskabsforeningen Danmark – Vestafrika står i spidsen for projektet omkring denne begivenhed. Musikken tager over i weekenden 17. African culture in Denmark

-an introduction

The multi-cultural society is already a fact. People from all over the world move around, mixing cultures and ideas. It has always been like that, but it is getting a little more visible now. Cultural meetings are sometimes a difficult challenge, but everybody can learn from the process. A multi-ethnic society can bring cultural richness and peace. It is not a threat or something to fear or prevent. It is happening!

The African society in Denmark is a community of parties, football in the park, music, shops, magazines, cultural weeks, celebrations, national days, picnics and awards. Everybody receives a warm welcome at these events.

The Danish "minister of integration" asks for immigrants in Denmark to show more of their culture. This is seen as a part of successful integration between nationalities and cultures. The African society in Denmark is probably among the most active when it comes to arranging cultural events, but more support is needed.
